INCHEON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Incheon, South Korea

As with most international travel, there are connections and layovers. Returning from the 2004 Rotary International Convention in Osaka, we were stranded at the Incheon International Airport in Seoul, Korea for four hours. The airport was built in response to the 1988 Seoul Olympics, and opened in1992. It was built on reclaimed land between two islands about 40 miles off the coast from Seoul. The airport boasts being one of the busiest in the world, and has been ranked number one in service over the past few years. With time to kill, I got out my sketch pad and tried to capture the feel of this modern airport, with the lofty ceiling height and reverse sloping exterior glass walls. Of course there were sleeping travelers waiting in the concourse, who also became a part of the image.
